Scope and Contents The Collection contains a single volume, 1862-1919, originally used as a patient register for wounded U.S. Civil War soldiers recovering at Philadelphia (Pa.) area military and civilian hospitals. It was later used as a scrapbook for newspaper clippings. The patient register is in the handwriting of wartime nurse Hiram J. Noyes. Abstract

This collection consists of a single volume scrapbook of clippings from newspapers, medical journals, and other publications, all on the topic of cancer. Many clippings relate to the use of radium and its efficacy in the treatment of cancer. Other topics include diet, various treatments and reported cures, tests, and discoveries surrounding the disease. Clippings date primarily from 1913-1914, with one clipping from 1911. A typed index is included at the beginning of the volume.

Abstract Douglas P. Murphy (1893-1971) served as a surgeon in the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) with the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) during World War I. During his military service, Murphy worked in several medical hospitals in France from 1917 until the war’s end in 1918. This scrapbook contains material related to the case surrounding the grave robbing at Lebanon Cemetery in Philadelphia and the subsequent Anatomy Act in Pennsylvania. Also included are notes (1880-1881) acknowledging receipt of museum specimens, reports and lists of bodies delivered to medical schools (1881), and W. S. Forbes' History of the Anatomy-Act of Pennsylvania (1898).

This collections contains pages from a scrapbook compiled by J.F. McClendon. The bulk of the material consists of photographs and biographies of notable doctors and scientists, interspersed with advertisements for medicines and other healthcare products. The six folders in this collection are arranged in alphabetical order by last name with the last folder labeled as ‘Men of Science R.H.H.’ The collection was discovered during a survey in the summer and fall of 2015.

Scope and Contents The first extensive autograph collection of Fellows of the American Surgical Association was donated to the Mutter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia by John B.
