Abstract Joseph Gibbons Richardson was born in Philadelphia in 1836. He earned his M.D. in 1862 from the University of Pennsylvania, and later was a lecturer on pathological anatomy and professor of hygiene. Scope and Contents The collection consists of Myles Synnott's diploma from Jefferson Medical College, 1831, and financial records, 1834-1866, from his Glassboro practice. These financial records consist of a daybook, 1854-1861, with a chronological listing of patients and a summary of the transaction, and four ledgers, numbered B through E, 18341866. Notes taken by Samuel Hutchins on lectures at Harvard Medical School and clinics at Massachusetts General Hospital, 1839 Jan. 10-1839 Feb. 5 (pp. 1-123), and Hutchins’ daybook from medical practice in Norton, Mass., 1841 Apr. 25-1841 Aug. 14 (pp. 124-129). Lecturers are: Jacob Bigelow on clinical medicine and materia medica; Walter Channing on midwifery; George Hayward on surgery; and John Ware on theory and practice of physic.

Several accounts charged for vaccinations and examinations of patients for life insurance companies. Includes farm and household accounts and monthly tallies of charges and fees collected. Includes pension examination reports on Civil War veterans with case histories, 1869-1870.

Scope and Contents This collection of twelve of Thomas F. Madill's daybooks (1857-1892) spans almost his entire professional career and gives a comprehensive view of the daily practice of a country physician in the towns of central Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The daybook entries are chronological and provide each patient's name, a brief description of the medical work, and the charge involved.
