Abstract Douglas P. Murphy (1893-1971) served as a surgeon in the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) with the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) during World War I. During his military service, Murphy worked in several medical hospitals in France from 1917 until the war’s end in 1918. Daybook, 1936 Sept. 16-1936 Dec. 31, of Russell E. Morgan’s first months of medical practice in Annville, Lebanon Co., Pa., lists patients, brief descriptions of services rendered, and account settlements; monthly summaries of income and expenses included. Appointment book, 1940, lists patients and account settlements.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of an account book, 1872-1883, kept by physician William Brower, 1842-1919. Accounts are recorded under the names of individuals, and the volume has a name index. Entries under each account list the services rendered and their cost, who received the service, and any payments made. The bulk of entries list only visit as the service, but more description, such as vaccination, is occasionally provided.

Scope and Contents The collection contains two account books, 1831-1873, documenting the medical practice of Dr. William Wilson Rutherford, 1805-1873, and, in part, Dr. A. T. Dean, d. 1834. Items found interleaved in the account books were removed and placed in folders. The first account book, 1831-1841 (Bulk 1832-1836), is most likely from the period when Dr. Rutherford practiced medicine with Dr. Dean in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
