Scope and Contents The two volumes contain notes on lectures by Chapman, the first of which is dated 1833. The lectures were delivered either at the University of Pennsylvania or at the Medical Institute of Philadelphia. Scope and Contents

One volume of notes on Chapman’s lectures on the practice of medicine. Internal references to Dr. Jackson, Professor of Practice, in Boston, and Dr. Physick’s recent experiments, imply a date prior to 1835. Lectures include diseases of the digestive and respiratory systems, dropsy, scrofula, and marasmus. Cullen’s classification of diseases is listed on the verso of the title page.

Two volumes of notes taken by Jacob Jeanes on the beginning lectures by Nathaniel Chapman on the practice of medicine delivered in the winter session of 1821-1822. Vol. 1 (225 pages) contains lectures on fevers. Vol. 2 (251 pages) contains lectures on hemorrhages and diseases of the digestive system. Vol. 2 also bears note “corrected in the winter of 1822-1823” and has many pencil annotations.
