Scope and Contents The collection contains four daybooks, 1824-1873 (Bulk 1837-1852), and two account books, 1826-1850, documenting the medical practice of Jason Howard Ames in Bradford, N.H. and the surrounding area. Items found interleaved in the volumes were removed and placed in folders. The daybooks list the patient and the services rendered and their cost. Volume documenting medical practice of Job Leonard in Windham Co., Vt., 1814-1821; some accounts settled as late as 1823. Begins in ledger format, then changes to daybook format in Dec. 1817. Lists patient name, reason for visit, prescriptions, and settlement of accounts. Includes supplementary folder of receipts and miscellaneous financial papers, 1818-1843.

Ledger documenting medical practice of physician R. H. Patterson in Somerset Co., Pa., from 1844 to 1849. Each account contains chronological list of charges and payments; several accounts remained unsettled until 1852. Many patients identified by profession or relationship to other individuals. Ledger also includes notes on volumes loaned to other physicians by R. H. Patterson.

Lecturers are: Jacob Bigelow on clinical medicine and materia medica; Walter Channing on midwifery; George Hayward on surgery; and John Ware on theory and practice of physic.

Several accounts charged for vaccinations and examinations of patients for life insurance companies. Includes farm and household accounts and monthly tallies of charges and fees collected. Includes pension examination reports on Civil War veterans with case histories, 1869-1870.

The collection consists of an account book, 1872-1883, kept by physician William Brower, 1842-1919. Accounts are recorded under the names of individuals, and the volume has a name index. Entries under each account list the services rendered and their cost, who received the service, and any payments made. The bulk of entries list only visit as the service, but more description, such as vaccination, is occasionally provided.
