Biographical / Historical
Hospital founded in 1895 at 16th and Lombard Streets, Philadelphia. Incorporated in 1896. Staffed by white and black physicians to care for poor patients and train blacks in health care. Merged with Mercy Hospital and School for Nurses of Philadelphia to form Mercy-Douglass Hospital in 1948. Hospital closed in 1973.
