Leidy describes condition of W. E. Horner’s internal organs at time of death on 13 Mar. 1853; emphasis placed on heart and kidneys. Horner died of enteroperitonitis.

Scope and Contents The Leidy family papers consist of two discrete collections, including lecture and admission cards, correspondence, and newsclippings. The first collection of Leidy family material, MSS 2/155-01, contains lecture admission cards and related material, 1830-1866, from the medical educations of Napoleon B. Leidy and Philip Leidy at the University of Pennsylvania and the pharmaceutical education of Thomas Leidy at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. The series includes several...

Scope and Contents

This small collection consists of letters received by Samuel Stehman Haldeman from various correspondents, including C. B. Adams, Joseph Leidy, Josiah Clark Nott, and Noah Webster. The letters concern matters of linguistics and natural history.

One item of particular interest in the collection is Joseph Leidy's description of a new genus of crustacean.

Clinical records of patients under care of William Osler in wards MM and WM at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, 1887-1889. In addition to Osler’s notes, patient records contain notes by James Tyson (Osler’s successor in professorship of clinical medicine at the University) and two resident physicians, Joseph Leidy and L. L. Mial. Several examples of cases of Bright’s disease, dyspepsia, tuberculosis, rheumatism, and typhoid fever.
