Samuel B. Hunter clinical lecture notes from Pennsylvania Hospital and Jefferson Medical College
Bound volume of notes in pencil and ink taken by Samuel B. Hunter in 1854 and 1855. The notes record Hunter's observation of clinical visits, describing patient's complaints and their treatments. The volume also includes some recipes for prescriptions.
Thomas Justus Dunott notes on the lectures of Thomas D. Mütter
Student notes by Thomas J. Dunott on surgical lectures of Thomas D. Mütter at Jefferson Medical College, 1852. Notes interleaved with Mütter’s Syllabus of the course of lectures on the principles and practice of surgery. Dunott’s notes concern: amputation; diseases and fractures of bones; inflammation; and wounds and injuries, specifically of head and abdomen. Includes occasional notes on John Kearsley Mitchell’s lectures on practice of medicine.
William L. Challiss lecture and matriculation tickets
This small collection documents the medical education of William L. Challiss at Jefferson Medical College, 1847-1848. The collection contains one matriculation card for the 18481849 academic session and admission cards to the lectures of Franklin Bache, Robley Dunglison, Robert M. Huston, Charles D. Meigs, John K. Mitchell, Thomas D. Mutter, and Joseph Pancoast. There is also one card admitting Challiss to lectures at the Philadelphia School of Anatomy in 1847.
William Paul Crillon Barton manuscript on the history of Jefferson Medical College
One volume (47 leaves) of an allegorical essay on the spirit of competition that existed between the Medical Department of the University of Pennsylvania and the newly founded Jefferson Medical College. A 15 page typewritten transcript is included with the manuscript.
